Contractible Cliques in k-Connected Graphs
نویسندگان
چکیده
Kawarabayashi proved that for any integer k ≥ 4, every k-connected graph contains two triangles sharing an edge, or admits a k-contractible edge, or admits a k-contractible triangle. This implies Thomassen’s result that every triangle-free k-connected graph contains a k-contractible edge. In this paper, we extend Kawarabayashi’s technique and prove a more general result concerning k-contractible cliques. An edge in a k-connected graph G is called k-contractible if the graph G/e obtained from G by contracting e is k-connected. Generalizing earlier results on 3-contractible edges in spanning trees of 3-connected graphs, we prove that (except for the graphs Kk+1 if k ∈ {1, 2}) (a) every spanning tree of a k-connected triangle free graph has two k-contractible edges, (b) every spanning tree of a k-...
متن کاملContractible edges in 3-connected graphs
By a graph, we mean a finite undirected simple graph with no loops and no multiple edges. For a graph G and an edge e of G, we let G/e denote the graph obtained from G by contracting e (and replacing each pair of the resulting double edges by a simple edge). Let k ≥ 2 be an integer, and let G be a k-connected graph. An edge e of G is said to be k-contractible if G/e is k-connected. The set of k...
متن کاملA Note on Contractible Edges in Chordal Graphs
Contraction of an edge merges its end points into a new vertex which is adjacent to each neighbor of the end points of the edge. An edge in a k-connected graph is contractible if its contraction does not result in a graph of lower connectivity. We characterize contractible edges in chordal graphs using properties of tree decompositions with respect to minimal vertex separators.
متن کاملContractible Edges in 2-Connected Locally Finite Graphs
In this paper, we prove that every contraction-critical 2-connected infinite graph has no vertex of finite degree and contains uncountably many ends. Then, by investigating the distribution of contractible edges in a 2-connected locally finite infinite graph G, we show that the closure of the subgraph induced by all the contractible edges in the Freudenthal compactification of G is 2-arc-connec...
متن کاملContractible edges in minimally k-connected graphs
An edge of a k-connected graph is said to be k-contractible if the contraction of the edge results in a k-connected graph. In this paper, we prove that a (K1 + C4)-free minimally k-connected graph has a k-contractible edge, if incident to each vertex of degree k, there is an edge which is not contained in a triangle. This implies two previous results, one due to Thomassen and the other due to K...
